Today, the educational paths of rectors leading higher education institutions always arouse interest. The specializations they studied and the fields they came from also have a certain impact on their leadership styles. Some have risen to this position by studying in economics, law, or management, while others have pursued completely different directions. In this article, we will look at the specializations chosen by the currently active rectors.

Rector of Mingachevir State University, Anar Eminov:
From 1999-2003, he completed his bachelor's degree in “International Trade” at Azerbaijan State University of Economics with an honors diploma, then continued his education in Turkey, completing his master's degree in “International Business Management” at Ege University from 2003–2004 and at Dokuz Eylül University from 2004-2006.
From 2006-2010, he studied “Law” at Western University and simultaneously completed his “E-commerce” specialization in distance learning format at the International Trade Institute from 2006–2007.
Rector of Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Adalat Muradov:
In 1985, he entered the Faculty of Economics of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv State University and graduated from the same faculty with an honors diploma in 1990.
Rector of Baku Higher Oil School, Elmar Gasimov:
He graduated from the Faculty of Geology and Geography and Law of Baku State University with an honors diploma.
Rector of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, Rufat Azizov:
In 1998, as a winner of the International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad, he was admitted to the Faculty of Chemistry of Lomonosov Moscow State University without examination – outside of competition.
Also, from 2014–2016, he completed the joint MBA program of ADA and Maastricht University, and from 2018–2020, he completed the higher business administration, "Executive MBA" program at Oxford University's Said Business School.
Rector of Nakhchivan State University, Elbrus Isayev:
From 1996-2000, he completed his bachelor's degree in History Teaching at the Faculty of History and Philology of Nakhchivan State University, and from 2000-2002, he completed his master's degree at the same university with an honors diploma.
Rector of Azerbaijan Technical University, Vilayat Valiyev:
From 1978-1983, he studied at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics of Baku State University.
Rector of Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, Jeyran Mahmudova:
From 1971-1982, she studied at the Bulbul Secondary Specialized Music School. From 1982–87, she continued her education at the History and Theory Faculty of the U. Hajibeyov Azerbaijan State Conservatory.
Rector of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Jafar Jafarov:
In 1983, he graduated from the Faculty of History of Moscow State University.
Rector of Lankaran State University, Natig Ibrahimov:
From 1972-1978, he studied at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Baku State University.
Rector of Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, Gulchohra Mammadova:
She entered the Faculty of Architecture of the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute and graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the newly established Azerbaijan Civil Engineering Institute in 1976.
Rector of Azerbaijan University of Tourism and Management, Ilham Madatov:
He graduated from the Arabic Language Department of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Baku State University.
