The State Examination Center (SEC) has clarified a controversial question regarding the subject of mathematics in the graduation exam.

It was stated that the main purpose of the task presented related to the topic of trapezoids in the graduation exam held on April 5, 2026, at the general education level, is to test students' ability to determine the equality of alternate interior angles formed as a result of the angle bisector of an acute angle and, based on this, to find the ratios between the sides by using the similarity of the triangles formed:
"The numbers given in the task are not as sides of any triangle, but are used for constructing similarity ratios. The selection of these numbers does not serve the existence of a geometric figure, but primarily serves to make calculations simple and accessible. In other words, the skill tested in this task is not to analyze the existence of a specific triangle using the triangle inequality, but to draw correct conclusions from the given geometric relationships. Therefore, the approach related to the triangle inequality does not change the solution process and sequence of the task, and at the same time, it does not create any obstacle to obtaining the correct answer.
We state that this type of open-ended tasks are checked based on specific evaluation criteria, and not only students who determine the completely correct answer, but also students who obtain correct intermediate results in the solution process or who correctly complete one of the solution stages are also taken into account in the evaluation", - it was noted in the information.
