Recently, a rapid increase in the number of Chinese-made cars has been observed in Azerbaijan. Interest in electric models, in particular, has grown. However, some recent incidents, including recorded cases of fires and technical malfunctions, are causing a degree of concern in society. The recent incident involving the burning of a “Haval” brand passenger car in Salyan district has further brought these questions to the forefront. Are Chinese cars truly becoming a source of danger, or is the problem more related to the technical characteristics of electric vehicles?

The Executive Director of the Azerbaijan Automobile Dealers Association Eyyub Aliyev told Modern.az, explaining the cause of fires in cars, that fire incidents can stem from various reasons. According to him, the wear and tear of internal wiring, especially in older cars, increases this risk.

“In recent times, another trend has been observed: additional lighting equipment and various electronic devices are being connected to cars. These devices are often installed by non-professional individuals in service centers or shops. As a result, the car's electrical system becomes overloaded, and a short circuit occurs, which leads to a fire”.

Eyyub Aliyev also emphasized that these incidents are not related to the country of origin of the car:

“Regardless of whether they are manufactured in America, Japan, Korea, or China, such incidents can occur in all cars. It is simply that Chinese cars are currently more widespread in the market and and are sold in larger numbers, which is why their name is more frequently mentioned in such incidents.

Overall, observations indicate that the main cause of fires in cars is the improper installation of subsequently connected additional equipment,” the executive director noted.
