The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) has agreed to provide long-range “Tomahawk” cruise missiles to Ukraine. However, it is reported that the final political decision will be made by President Donald Trump.
Modern.az reports that this information was disseminated citing CNN sources.
According to the information, the Pentagon gave the “green light” to the White House after determining that the transfer of missiles to Ukraine would not negatively affect US defense reserves.
The TV channel noted that the presidential administration was informed about this conclusion of the Pentagon as early as October, before the meeting between Trump and Ukrainian leader Zelenski.
European officials welcomed this decision. In their opinion, the White House now has fewer reasons to oppose the sale of missiles. However, according to CNN, Trump surprised observers in the open part of his meeting with Zelenski by stating, “The US does not want to give weapons needed for its own country's defense to someone else.”
The source states that the administration has also prepared plans for the rapid shipment of “Tomahawk” missiles to Ukraine, should the president order it.
Currently, neither the White House nor the Pentagon has provided an official comment on the matter.
