The Zangezur corridor and the “North–South” international transport route are not competitors, and both projects are important for the region.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Sergey Shoigu, Secretary of the Russian Security Council.
He made this statement to journalists after the XIII meeting of the Secretaries of the Security Councils of CIS countries.
“I believe that both routes have the right to exist and are necessary. Because these routes will connect Azerbaijan with its regions, and also expand trade relations between countries”, - Shoigu said.
He recalled that the “North–South” corridor connects deep southern ports with the Arctic Ocean and the Northern Sea Route: “I see no competition here. There is no question of someone indirectly transporting cargo or changing the route. Russia is a large country and has an extensive transport network. Every new route – is always good.”
According to Shoigu, these projects will serve the development of logistics and economic cooperation in the region.
