Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenka stated that the US demanded him to apologize to official Vilnius for releasing balloons that violated Lithuania's airspace.
Modern.az reports that, according to Belta, Lukashenka noted that Lithuania itself should first resolve what happened.
"We are negotiating with the Americans. These negotiations are ongoing at various levels and are difficult. And literally the day after the night those balloons flew, the Americans sent us a message that Belarusians were to blame for what happened, and that the authorities, as well as Lukashenka, should immediately and openly apologize to Lithuania. I said, "get lost..." and so on.
I said that we would apologize, but only if we were guilty. Why should I apologize? But the Americans and Lithuanians are demanding an apology from us. Who is controlling whom? They complained to the Americans who are negotiating with us. The Americans are sending me a letter to apologize. The Lithuanians are also demanding an apology from us. The Americans ordered them: Demand Lukashenka to apologize!”.
