Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the establishment of the Day of Indigenous Peoples of Russia.
Modern.az reports that the text of the document has been posted on the portal for the official publication of legal acts.
The holiday is planned to be celebrated on April 30. This date coincides with the adoption of the federal law "On Guarantees of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples of the Russian Federation" dedicated to indigenous peoples in 1999.
The purpose of the holiday, which will not be included in the weekend, is to preserve the traditional way of life, economic activities, craftsmanship, and distinct culture of these peoples. Putin also signed a decree on the establishment of the Day of Languages of the Peoples of Russia. This holiday will be celebrated on September 8.
