The murder of 23-year-old Ayshat Baymuradova, of Chechen origin, in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, has caused a public outcry in the country.
The girl's p was discovered on October 19 in an apartment located on Demirchyan Street.
According to Modern.az, Armenian media reported on this matter.
Baymuradova went missing on October 15. She had fled Chechnya and sought asylum in Armenia with the help of human rights defenders due to domestic violence in her family.
Lidiya Mikhalchenko, head of the “Caucasus Without Mothers” project, stated that the girl was strangled to death. According to Baymuradova's relatives, the building's surveillance cameras recorded two individuals leaving the apartment on the day of the incident.
During the investigation, one of these individuals was identified as 30-year-old Said-Khamzat Baysarov, a resident of Chechnya. In 2018, he was suspected of financing the “ISIS” terrorist organization, but Moscow's Cheryomushki district court acquitted him. Furthermore, criminal cases had been opened against him for robbery and driving under the influence.
The other person is Karina Iminova, who had met Baymuradova through social media. According to information, Ayshat had gone to meet Iminova precisely one day before her death.
Although Armenian law enforcement agencies have identified Baysarov and Iminova, it is reported that they have not been officially placed on a wanted list. Both individuals left the country after the incident.
Russian human rights defenders have noted that the slow pace of the investigation and the failure to place the suspects on a wanted list raise concerns that the case may be closed.
