Serbia's Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime has filed charges against the country's president, Aleksandar Vučić, for exceeding and abusing his official powers.
Modern.az reports that this information was published on the institution's official website.
According to the Prosecutor's Office's statement, the charges are based on an interview Vučić gave on November 3 on "TV Prva" in a program hosted by Milomir Marić.
In that program, the president referred to the investigations conducted by the prosecutor's office as “fake and politically motivated,” and the institution was accused of “trying to influence the processes.”
“President Aleksandar Vučić has once again attacked active prosecutors with insulting and false statements. Such statements by him hinder the administration of justice, damage the constitutional and legal order, as well as the rule of law,” the statement noted.
In that interview, Vučić spoke about the law concerning the reconstruction of the former General Staff building, which was destroyed during NATO's 1999 airstrikes. He recalled that in 2016, he reached an agreement with the US administration regarding the creation of a “Museum of Victims of NATO Aggression” on the site of that building.
