Russia's Minister of Defense Andrey Belousov announced that it is “expedient for his country to immediately begin preparations for full-scale nuclear tests.”
Modern.az reports that this statement was made after the “Minuteman III” missile was tested by the United States.
According to Belousov, the condition of Russia's testing ground in Novaya Zemlya allows these tests to be carried out in a short period. President Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, instructed the Security Council to “assess the possibilities for preparing for full-scale nuclear tests.”
FSB Director Aleksandr Bortnikov also requested time from the president to prepare proposals regarding potential US nuclear tests.
It should be noted that on November 4, the Pentagon conducted a test launch of a modernized LGM-30G Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile from Vandenberg Base off the coast of California. According to US officials, the launch was planned and did not involve the detonation of a warhead. The purpose is to verify the reliability and accuracy of the missile system.
