US President Donald Trump commented on the victory of Democrat Zohran Mamdani in the New York mayoral elections.
Modern.az reports that he assessed this result as “a partial loss of US sovereignty.”
Trump voiced these thoughts at a business forum held in Miami: “We did a very important thing on November 5, 2024, we returned power to our people. On that day, we restored our sovereignty. Last night we lost a part of it in New York, but we will overcome this,” the president stated.
Trump added that he “will not allow communism to be established in any form or manner” in the US:
“As long as I am president, the US will not be a communist country. We will stop these crazy ideas,” he emphasized.
It should be noted that in the elections held on November 4, democratic-socialist Zohran Mamdani was elected the new mayor of New York. He announced that the inauguration ceremony would be held on January 1 of next year and promised to “stop” Trump.
Currently, the city is led by Eric Adams. Trump had stated on the eve of the vote that if Mamdani won, the federal government would allocate only the minimum funding stipulated by law to New York. He had called Mamdani a “communist.”
