Kazakhstani President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will announce his country's accession to the "Abraham Accords" in a meeting with US President Donald Trump on Thursday.
Modeen.az reports that US officials informed “Axios” publication about this.
According to the information, this step is regarded by Washington as an important move towards revitalizing Israel's cooperation platform with the Arab and Muslim world. The US administration believes that Kazakhstan's accession to the initiative, given its majority Muslim population, will strengthen Israel's international legitimacy.
It is reported that Trump and Tokayev will hold a joint phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and officially declare Astana's intention to join the “Abraham Accords”. Subsequently, a signing ceremony may be held at the White House.
According to experts, for Kazakhstan, this step will be significant in terms of strengthening relations with Washington and demonstrating the country's commitment to its policy of religious tolerance.
It should be recalled that the “Abraham Accords” were signed in 2020 with the mediation of the United States, leading to the establishment of diplomatic relations between Israel and several Arab-Muslim countries – the UAE, Bahrain, and Morocco. The US continues negotiations towards expanding the accords.
