The tension that arose between Turkey and Australia regarding the hosting of the next UN climate summit (COP31) to be held next year has been resolved.
Modern.az reports that Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced that the parties were nearing a compromise agreement during talks held in Brazil.
According to the agreement, Turkey will host COP31 and the event will be held in Antalya. Australia, meanwhile, will act as the country leading the intergovernmental negotiations.
Previously, both countries had put forward their candidacies to host COP31 and refused to withdraw.
Albanese stated that the agreement reached is a “great success” for both Turkey and Australia. He added that the pre-COP event to be held before the summit will be organized in the Pacific Ocean region.
