Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia can strengthen their role as the main transport hub of the South Caucasus.

Modern.az reports that this was stated by Armenian Member of Parliament Maria Karapetyan during her speech at the autumn session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly held in Istanbul.

The MP recalled that in October of this year, Azerbaijan lifted all restrictions on cargo transit towards Armenia. According to her, President Ilham Aliyev's step is an important signal showing that “peace exists not only on paper but also in real life.”

Karapetyan stated that Armenia has declared its readiness to carry out cargo transportation from Turkey to Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan, and for this purpose, the existing road infrastructure on its territory can be used.

She also assessed the transportation of grain sent from Kazakhstan and Russia to Armenia through the territories of Azerbaijan and Georgia as an indicator that the opening of communications in the region is practically already yielding results.

“The South Caucasus countries can strengthen each other and develop the region as a key transit hub connecting Europe, the Black Sea, Turkey, the Caspian, and Central Asia,” the MP emphasized.

Karapetyan added that Armenia hopes for the opening of the land border with Turkey and the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries in the near future.
