After many years, the first commercial operation in the field of oil products has been carried out between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Via the territory of Georgia, 1220 tons of AI-95 brand gasoline produced at the Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery in Baku was exported to Armenia. The cargo volume is equivalent to 22 railway cisterns.
Modern.az reports, citing the Armenian press, that the buyer of the oil is the Armenian company "Mega Trade".
According to Armenian media reports, the gasoline imported from Azerbaijan will be put on sale within the country through the Ran Oil network of filling stations.
"Mega Trade" states that the import of Azerbaijani fuel may allow for a decrease in gasoline prices in the Armenian market. The company's statement emphasizes that this step serves to launch an alternative supply route, diversify the market, and strengthen the competitive environment.
It should be noted that in 2024, Armenia imported approximately 520 thousand tons of gasoline and diesel fuel, with Russia being the main supplier. According to experts, lower transportation costs and the quality factor may increase the competitiveness of Azerbaijani gasoline in the Armenian market. Armenian analysts also consider this step as an important opportunity in terms of reducing the country's energy dependence on Russia.
