From 2026, the rules for the entry and exit of minors to and from the territory of Russia will change.

Modern.az reports that, according to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, children will henceforth be able to enter and exit the Russian Federation only with a foreign passport.

The Ministry states that the new rules will come into force on January 20, 2026. After this date, it will not be possible for children to cross the border based on a birth certificate or an entry in a parent's passport.

The new requirements also apply to citizens of Azerbaijan visiting Russia. This change is particularly important for those traveling to Russia for family visits, education, medical treatment, or visiting relatives. Parents and legal representatives must ensure that children have a separate foreign passport before the trip.

Given that there is little time left until the rules come into force, parents should not postpone the preparation of documents until the last moment. Otherwise, problems may arise at the border, and the trip may not take place.

It should be noted that this change aims to strengthen border control by Russia and standardize migration rules. Citizens planning a trip are advised to follow official announcements and clarify documents in advance.
