Another major corruption scandal has shaken the agenda in Ukraine. According to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), telephone conversations of MP Yuri Kisel, a member of the ruling “Servant of the People” party and known for his closeness to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, were wiretapped for approximately two years.
Modern.az reports that, according to a statement from the agency, Kisel could become one of the main figures in new corruption revelations.
According to MP Mariana Bezuhla, the session of the Verkhovna Rada was practically suspended after information about NABU's operations and searches was disseminated. This is considered one of the key points indicating the tension within the parliament.
Earlier in the day, some media outlets reported that searches were conducted at the home of MP Yuri Koryavchenko in Kyiv. However, NABU denied these reports, stating that no investigative actions were being carried out against Koryavchenko. At the same time, the agency neither confirmed nor denied that searches were conducted against Yuri Hryhorovych Kisel. Ukrainian media presents Kisel as a person close to President Zelenskyy and his long-time business partner Serhiy Shefir.
NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) stated in a joint announcement that an organized criminal group, which includes current people's deputies, has been exposed. According to the investigation's version, this group regularly obtained illegal material benefits during the adoption of certain decisions and votes in the Verkhovna Rada.
