The US used various types of weapons during the operation carried out against Iran on February 28, which was named “Epic Fury”.
Modern.az reports that, according to a statement from the US Central Command (CENTCOM), long-range “Tomahawk” cruise missiles, fifth-generation F-35 fighters, F/A-18 combat aircraft, and, for the first time in combat conditions, inexpensive kamikaze unmanned aerial vehicles were used during the strikes.
Information released by the Pentagon states that the one-way attack drones used were developed based on a model similar to Iran's “Shahed”-type UAVs. It is reported that this system, named LUCAS (low-cost unmanned combat systems) and implemented by the US, costs approximately 35,000 dollars. Such drones are based on the use of numerous and relatively low-cost weapons within the framework of the “cheap mass” strategy.
“Tomahawk” cruise missiles were also used during the strikes. These missiles, manufactured by "Raytheon" company, are capable of striking targets with high precision at distances up to 1,600 kilometers. The average cost of one “Tomahawk” is approximately 1.3 million dollars. The US plans to purchase 57 of these missiles in 2026.
F-35 and F/A-18 type fighter jets also participated in the operation. The F-35 is distinguished by its radar invisibility and high-precision weapon systems. The F/A-18, on the other hand, can perform both air-to-air and air-to-ground operations.
