Soon, a temporary Leadership Council will be formed in Iran and a new Leader will be elected.

Modern.az reports, citing the "Mehr" news agency, that this was stated by Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.

"In accordance with the Constitution, a leadership council has been formed to carry out the duties of the supreme leader until a successor is elected," Larijani stated.

Earlier, IRNA agency reported that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, the head of the judiciary, and one of the members of the Guardian Council will temporarily lead the republic after the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei was killed as a result of attacks by the US and Israel.

On February 28, the US and Israel launched a military operation against Iran, carrying out airstrikes on the republic's cities. In response, Iran launched missiles into Israeli territory. Additionally, Iranian forces attacked fourteen US military bases located in Persian Gulf countries. Due to the situation in the Middle East, some countries in the region have temporarily closed their airspace.
