Former Minister of Defense and former Minister of Interior Affairs Ahmad Vahidi has been appointed as the new commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Modern.az reports that Iran's “Mehr” Agency has disseminated information about this.
The appointment took place after the killing of several high-ranking Iranian military commanders, including IRGC chief Mohammad Pakpour.
Ahmad Vahidi was born on June 27, 1958, in Shiraz, Iran.
His real name and surname are Ahmad Shah Cheraghi.
He holds a bachelor's degree in electronics and a master's degree in industrial engineering. He received a doctorate in strategic studies from Imam Sadiq University.
He is the former commander of the Quds Force, which organized attacks against Israelis and Americans. The deadliest attack in this regard occurred in 1994 at the Jewish Cultural Center in Buenos Aires. This attack was the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. An investigation conducted by Argentine intelligence agencies and Mossad revealed that Iran was behind the operation and Ahmad Vahidi was the organizer of the attack. Consequently, Interpol placed Vahidi on its wanted list in 2007.
On November 14, 2022, he was added to the sanctions list of all European Union countries "for serious human rights violations in Iran."
