The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that an agreement has been reached among sports leaders worldwide on new eligibility criteria regarding the participation of transgender athletes.
Modern.az reports that the new rules are expected to be presented in the first half of this year.
This will be the first unified approach adopted by the IOC and international federations and will apply to many international competitions, including the Olympic Games.
The rules will strictly limit the participation of transgender athletes who have undergone full male puberty and subsequently transitioned medically in the women's category.
The IOC states that “the protection of the women's category” is one of the main reform directions and the new policy will come into force in the coming months.
