Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan commented on Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan's statement regarding the normalization of relations.
Hakan Fidan stated that the normalization of relations with Turkey is important for Armenia, and if Turkey were to do this now, it would deprive Yerevan of the main reason for signing a peace agreement with Azerbaijan.
Hakan Fidan also noted that the concept of establishing a connection between Nakhchivan and Azerbaijan was adopted at the August 8 meeting in Washington.
According to Modern.az, Ararat Mirzoyan, commenting on his Turkish counterpart's statement, said that
the establishment of diplomatic relations with Ankara and the opening of borders are indeed important for Armenia:
“The further institutionalization of the established peace with Azerbaijan is equally important. Armenia is making sincere efforts in both directions. Neither of these two components is conditional on the other, and if we try to establish a cause-and-effect relationship between them, it appears that the full normalization of relations with Turkey will have a positive, not negative, impact on the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
As for the opening of transport infrastructure, the main principles of this process were agreed upon at the peace summit held in Washington on August 8: territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, sovereignty, jurisdiction, and reciprocity. The “Trump route” defined within this framework will connect Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan, as well as Armenia with other countries, and on a broader geographical scale, regions through Armenia and Azerbaijan. Armenia is making active efforts to implement this as soon as possible"
