New state registration plates have been prepared for vehicles in Azerbaijan. A relevant decision has been signed in this regard.
According to the decision, based on the AZS 599:2025 state standard, the "hyphen" signs between numbers and letters on state registration plates have been abolished.
According to Modern.az, transport expert Aslan Asadov stated that the change in license plates is not only related to the "hyphen".
"According to the new standards, the region code will now be 3 digits instead of 2. In total, there will be 6 digits in the number.
• the first 3 digits - region code,
• the following 2 letters - vehicle series,
• and the last 3 digits - will represent the vehicle's registration number", - the expert stated.
Rövşən Tağıyev, head of department at the Main State Traffic Police Department (MSTPD), said that the state registration plates currently in use will remain as they are. The change will be reflected in new numbers issued hereafter.
