The number of people killed as a result of the devastating earthquake in Venezuela has reached 5,346.
Modern.az reports that this was announced by the Speaker of the country's parliament (National Assembly) Jorge Rodriguez on his Telegram channel.
He noted that, according to the government's daily report, 16,740 people were injured and 17,265 people were left homeless as a result of the earthquake. A total of 190 buildings were completely destroyed, and 856 buildings were seriously damaged.
During search and rescue operations, 6,462 people were rescued, 39,567 people were transferred to medical facilities, 128,324 families were provided with assistance, and 23,122 people were accommodated in 107 temporary camps. A total of 10,964.97 tons of food were delivered to the victims.
It should be recalled that the earthquake occurred in Venezuela on the evening of June 24. Two strong tremors of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 were recorded with a difference of approximately 40 seconds. The epicenters of the tremors were located 10 kilometers apart in Yaracuy state. After the earthquake, 1,405 aftershocks occurred.
