They do not want TRIPP to be launched
The agreement reached between Azerbaijan and Armenia on August 8, 2025, promises important prospects not only for ensuring long-term peace between the two countries but also for the future of the South Caucasus as a whole.
One of the main directions of the agreement reached between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Washington is the Zangazur corridor, or officially TRIPP (Trump's International Peace and Prosperity Route) project, which envisages the restoration of transport and communication links in the region, along with the peace agenda.
The implementation of the project can lead not only to the expansion of economic ties between Azerbaijan and Armenia but also to the formation of a new transport map of the South Caucasus, an increase in the transit capabilities of the region, and the creation of new opportunities for economic cooperation after many years of conflict.
However, this initiative, which promises political stability and economic development to the region, is not welcomed by everyone in the same way.
Recently, the activation of forces connected with certain political centers and individuals trying to maintain revanchist positions within Armenia against the TRIPP project draws attention. They spread untrue claims about the project on various platforms and try to form narratives that TRIPP allegedly poses a threat to Armenia's sovereignty and statehood.
The striking aspect of the issue is that among those who oppose the project are also individuals who openly object to the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations and the formation of new realities in the region.
Among them, the names of two well-known lawyers - Argentine Luis Moreno Ocampo and American-Canadian Robert Amsterdam - are particularly mentioned.
Luis Moreno Ocampo
Former chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Luis Moreno Ocampo, is one of the individuals who oppose the TRIPP initiative. His position on the project is not limited to merely objecting to the route itself. In one of the videos he published, Ocampo talks about his activities aimed at exerting political pressure against existing political processes and the elected government of Armenia.
Ocampo, whose name has been mentioned in corruption scandals and who lost his post because of it, criticizes Armenia's policy of integration with the West and normalization of relations with Azerbaijan. He claims that his activities allegedly serve to prevent a new peace agenda in the region.
Robert Amsterdam
Another well-known person who opposes TRIPP is American-Canadian lawyer Robert Amsterdam.
Amsterdam's law firm has defended the interests of individuals and entities connected with Russia in various years. His clients have included individuals associated with various political circles related to Russia and Armenia.
It should also be particularly emphasized that Amsterdam currently represents the interests of the Armenian Apostolic Church. By drawing attention to the historical and institutional ties of the Church with Russia, it becomes clear that the positions of Amsterdam and Ocampo coincide with the positions of forces opposing the normalization of Armenia's relations with Azerbaijan.
The main concern of these individuals and the circles supporting them is to prevent a new reality in the region - peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the opening of transport communications, and the integration of the South Caucasus into a broader regional cooperation system.
In this regard, TRIPP is not just a new transport route. The implementation of the project can accelerate the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, increase the economic potential of the region, and create new opportunities for long-term stability in the South Caucasus.
Precisely for this reason, the spread of various manipulative narratives around the project by forces that do not want TRIPP to be launched should not go unnoticed.
