US President Donald Trump shared an article by his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, dedicated to the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process, on his social media account.
Modern.az reports that the article in question is Witkoff's "How Trump turned a frozen conflict into a peace model?" published in the "Washington Examiner" on August 10. Trump posted a link to the article on his "Truth Social" account on September 3.
In his article, Witkoff discussed the role of US President Donald Trump in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
He noted that one year has passed since the signing of the Joint Declaration on Peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and this agreement has created a significant turning point towards ending a conflict that lasted more than 35 years.
"President Trump prioritized peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, going beyond the limits of previous approaches," Witkoff said.
According to the US President's special envoy, Washington's active contacts with Baku in this direction began with his visit to Azerbaijan in March 2025.
Witkoff stated that after the initial contacts, they concluded that US-Azerbaijan relations had not received adequate attention in previous periods. According to him, the Trump administration's foreign policy approach involves working directly with the parties to resolve long-term conflicts.
Witkoff praised Aliyev's role
The article also gave special attention to the role of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in the peace process.
Witkoff characterized Ilham Aliyev as a strong and determined leader ready to take difficult but necessary steps for peace.
According to him, the Azerbaijani President gave the impression of a leader who understands both his country's interests and the broader framework of regional stability.
"This visit convinced our team that progress was possible," Witkoff wrote.
Unimpeded passage to Nakhchivan and TRIPP
The US President's special envoy highlighted ensuring unimpeded connectivity between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan as one of the main practical issues in the negotiations.
Witkoff noted that this issue had long been evaluated based on an approach where "one side's gain was the other side's loss." In his opinion, a new way of thinking, a creative approach, and political leadership were required for a solution.
He stated that as a result, the TRIPP concept emerged between the US and Armenia, which envisages the creation of unimpeded multimodal transport routes passing through Armenian territory.
Witkoff emphasized that the project must be implemented based on the principle of full respect for Armenia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
"Trump prioritized practical results over a demonstrative process, and this approach proved successful," the special envoy noted.
According to Witkoff, over the past year, the US has cooperated with both Azerbaijan and Armenia to implement the agreements reached.
He expressed his expectation that the TRIPP route would be connected to the Caspian Sea in the future, and that this concept could also find application opportunities in the Middle East.
At the end of his article, Witkoff noted that the South Caucasus has now become a safer and more stable region.
In his opinion, this is because Donald Trump, Ilham Aliyev, and Nikol Pashinyan prioritized concrete results over rhetoric.
It should be noted that the joint statement issued by Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the US in August 2026 also emphasized the results created by the meeting held at the White House on August 8, 2025, in the peace process.
