For the first time in decades, NATO conducted large-scale exercises to search for Russian nuclear submarines without the participation of the United States.
Modern.az reports that "Politico" wrote about this.
The publication writes that off the coast of Iceland, warships and aviation forces belonging to European countries and Canada conducted exercises to detect Russian submarines capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
During the exercises, preparations were made for a scenario to prevent submarines from entering the Atlantic Ocean through the area between Greenland, Iceland, and Great Britain.
Previously, the US played a key role in these annual exercises. However, this time, for the first time, American warships and aircraft did not participate in the exercises. According to the publication, a large part of the US Navy is currently concentrated in the Middle East and the Caribbean region.
It should be noted that NATO is thus testing its capabilities to ensure the defense of the region without US leadership amid the growing Russian threat in the North Atlantic.
