US President Donald Trump has announced the start of "the most destructive economic operation ever carried out against any country" against Iran.
Modern.az reports that Trump shared this on his "Truth Social" social network account.
The US president stated that Iran's failure to use the great opportunity given to it to reach an agreement will lead to severe consequences for Tehran itself.
"Today I announce the start of the most destructive economic operation ever carried out against any country. This will be an economic war and isolation on an unprecedented scale," Trump said.
The White House chief noted that from today, any country that provides any form of assistance to Iran will itself face "huge economic consequences."
Trump called on US allies to act together with Washington to isolate Iran and "defeat the Iranian threat."
He called the new measures against Iran "economic D-Day."
The US president also reiterated that Iran will never possess nuclear weapons.
Trump had previously taken a tough stance on Iran's nuclear program and called on Tehran to reach an agreement.
