Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, in response to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's statements about Iran, said that the United States awaits a humiliating defeat.
Modern.az reports that Ghalibaf wrote about this on the social network "X".
He recalled the fate of invaders who tried to destroy ancient civilizations throughout history:
"We Iranians have stood against those who throughout history declared themselves masters of the universe and tried to wipe ancient civilizations off the face of the earth. They came with fire and brimstone, and left in disgrace and dishonor."
Ghalibaf also made a historical comparison in his message to the US:
"Those who wish to inherit the glory of Alexander will share the fate of Valerian. You will have to kneel."
Alexander the Great conquered the Persian Empire in the 4th century BC. Roman Emperor Valerian was captured by Sasanian ruler Shapur I after being defeated in the Battle of Edessa in 260 AD. In Iran, this event is often recalled as a symbol of the humiliation of a powerful rival.
It should be noted that Marco Rubio claimed on Wednesday that Iran had "completely lost" control of the Strait of Hormuz. He cited the recovery of oil exports from Persian Gulf countries in September as evidence of this.
