The US Supreme Court has allowed President Donald Trump's administration to resume deportations of migrants to countries where they had not previously lived.

The court granted the US Department of Justice's emergency request. This stopped the execution of the decision by US District Court Judge Brian Murphy in Boston. Murphy had deemed the US Department of Homeland Security's policy of sending migrants to “third countries” illegal.
The Supreme Court also agreed to hear arguments from the parties regarding the dispute in December. A final decision on the policy is expected after that.
The Supreme Court has 6 conservative judges and 3 liberal judges. The three liberal judges stated that they disagreed with the decision allowing deportations to be immediately resumed until the court process is finalized.
Judge Murphy's decision was based on a class action lawsuit filed by organizations defending immigrant rights on behalf of migrants. The plaintiffs sought to prevent the US government from sending migrants to third countries without prior notice and without allowing them to express their positions on the possible danger they might face in the country to which they would be sent.
According to human rights organizations, more than 25,000 migrants were deported to 29 countries under this policy last year. The vast majority of them were sent to Mexico.
