Freight rates per ton for large crude oil tankers on the TD3C route from the Gulf to China have increased 5 times.
Modern.az reports with reference to foreign media that on February 27, the last trading day before the start of the US-Iran war, freight rates per ton for very large crude oil tankers going from the Gulf to China were $45.42, while in September this figure was $229.76. Shipping costs on this route have increased by approximately 406 percent, or 5 times, compared to pre-war levels.
The increase in shipping costs also affected prices on routes that do not require passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Thus, on the TD34 route from the Gulf of Oman to China, the price of freight per ton, which was $36.78 on March 26, increased by approximately 3.8 times to $140.02 in September.
By the end of September, transport costs on the TD3C route passing through the Strait of Hormuz were approximately 64 percent higher than on the TD34 route, which does not require passage through the strait.
It should be noted that before the war, approximately 80 percent of oil and oil products passing through the Strait of Hormuz were transported to Asia.
