It should be noted that the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced that the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize will be awarded to Navanethem Navi Pillay, a South African lawyer and human rights activist who served as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights from 2008 to 2014. The laureate was awarded for her efforts in promoting peace and protecting international law. Pillay, 85, has served as a judge on the South African Supreme Court, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, and the International Criminal Court. Pillay is currently a judge on the International Court of Justice and presides over the case in which Myanmar is accused of genocide.
