In Latvia, a batch of green tea imported from Armenia has been banned from entering the country. The reason is the detection of a pesticide in the product that is prohibited for use in the European Union.
Modern.az reports that local media spread information about this.
During an inspection carried out by the Latvian Food and Veterinary Service, residues of the pesticide tolfenpyrad were found in a tea batch weighing 57.6 kilograms. The use of this substance is not allowed in the European Union.
Laboratory analyses also showed that the amounts of two other pesticides — lambda-cyhalothrin and thiamethoxam — exceeded the permissible limit.
According to the agency, the products must be destroyed or sent to a country outside the European Union.
It should be noted that after Russia imposed restrictions on the supply of Armenian agricultural products, Yerevan tried to redirect part of its exports to European Union countries. For this purpose, Armenia received tens of millions of euros from Brussels.
