Protests in France, which turned into riots last weekend, have weakened President Emmanuel Macron's positions in the Council of Europe.

Modern.az reports that "Politico" published this information, citing its sources.

An unnamed European Union diplomat, who spoke to the publication, stated that the events in France limit Macron's room for maneuver.

“It simply limits his room for maneuver,” the diplomat noted.

It should be recalled that on October 17, mass protests were held in Paris and other cities of France against the increase in fuel prices and the decrease in the purchasing power of the population. According to the organizers' estimates, 800,000 people participated in the actions. The French Ministry of Internal Affairs, however, announced that the number of participants was 550,000. This figure was twice as high as the forecasts of law enforcement analysts. In a number of cities, protests turned into riots and clashes with the police. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez stated that more than 2,000 people were detained across the country. He emphasized that measures to bring those involved in destruction and looting to justice would continue.
