Protests in France, which resulted in riots last weekend, have weakened President Emmanuel Macron's positions within the European Union.
Modern.az reports that “Politico” published this information, citing its sources.
A European diplomat, who was interviewed by the publication, stated that the events limit Macron's scope of action.
“This simply limits his ability to act,” the diplomat noted.
On October 17, mass demonstrations were held in Paris and other French cities against the increase in fuel prices and the decrease in the purchasing power of the population.
According to the organizers of the action, 800,000 people participated in the demonstrations. The French Ministry of Internal Affairs, however, indicated the number of participants as 550,000. This figure doubled the initial forecasts of security agency analysts.
In a number of cities, protests turned into riots and clashes with the police.
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez stated that more than 2,000 people were detained across the country. He emphasized that the authorities will continue to take measures to bring all persons involved in looting and robberies to justice.
