Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has sent appeals regarding claims of pressure during local self-government elections to the relevant institutions for investigation.
Modern.az reports that Pashinyan stated that after his previous post, he received numerous emails, but only three of them were related to the mentioned topic.
According to him, the first letter was sent by a deputy of the “Strong Armenia” faction. The deputy presented a transcript of his speech in which he voiced claims of dismissal for political reasons. Pashinyan said that he instructed the relevant inspectorate to conduct an urgent check on the matter.
The second appeal included a video showing a child participating in an election campaign. The Prime Minister forwarded these images to the Anti-Corruption Committee.
The author of the third letter wrote that he generally supported the government's policy, but did not consider the candidate nominated for community leadership to be a successful choice.
Pashinyan emphasized that the receipt of only three appeals does not mean that everything is ideal.
“I have the political will to protect the rights of citizens facing this situation. But if I am not aware of the facts, or if citizens do not respond to my call to report them, what steps should I take?” – the prime minister noted.
