Avetik Chalabyan, coordinator of the “Hayakve” (“Ayakve”) initiative and a revanchist, has been released from custody by court order in Armenia.
Modern.az reports, citing Armenian media, that during the court session held in Yerevan's Shengavit district, the state prosecutor requested an extension of Chalabyan's detention for another two months. The defense, however, demanded his release.
After hearing the parties, Judge David Balayan stated that there were no grounds to keep Chalabyan in custody and decided not to impose any other precautionary measure against him. Chalabyan was immediately released from the courtroom.
Chalabyan was detained on June 24 and arrested by court order. He was charged with preparing to obstruct citizens' electoral rights in the parliamentary elections held on June 7, 2026. Chalabyan denies the charges.
Chalabyan is known as one of the main critics of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's government. He is the coordinator of the “Hayakve” national-civic movement.
