The interim congressional elections to be held in the US on November 3 will determine the balance of power in parliament. The results of the election could affect the last two years of Donald Trump's presidency.
Modern.az reports that "Reuters" agency wrote about it.
According to the agency, the Democratic Party hopes to win a majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate. This will allow them to strengthen control over the presidential administration and make it difficult for Trump's initiatives to advance.
Currently, the Republican Party has a majority in both houses of Congress. Republicans have 218 seats in the House of Representatives, while Democrats have 214. In the Senate, Republicans are represented by 53 seats, and Democrats by 47.
To change the balance of power, Democrats need to win an additional four seats in both chambers.
According to "Reuters" estimates, Democrats have a high chance of taking control of the House of Representatives. The results of the struggle for the Senate are more difficult to predict.
Trump's low rating and favorable results for Democrats in polls indicate that the elections could change the balance of political forces in Washington.
However, the agency notes that even if Democrats win in one or both houses of parliament, Trump will retain his veto power and broad executive powers. This will limit the ability of Democrats to pass important laws.
It should be noted that earlier "The Washington Post" newspaper conducted a survey among the adult population of the USA. According to the results of the survey, the indicator of those who approve of Trump's activity is currently 33 percent.
66 percent of respondents said they did not approve of his activities, and 52 percent strongly did not support the US leader's activities.
