Iran considers the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for ship traffic dependent on the US accepting the conditions put forward by Tehran.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in an interview with Iraq's “Al-Iraqiya News” TV channel.
The minister emphasized that for the resumption of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, Washington must fulfill Iran's demands.
“Our position is completely clear. Any ship attempting to pass through this waterway will face serious problems. Why does the US even allow ships to pass through an area where there are major security problems due to a lack of agreements?” – said Araghchi.
The head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry also stressed that his country will not bow to economic sanctions and military threats.
“Iran will under no circumstances surrender to either economic sanctions or military threats. The only acceptable solution is diplomacy and negotiations,” – the minister noted.
It should be recalled that Tehran submitted a seven-point proposal to the US for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. The demands include the lifting of the blockade imposed on Iranian ports, the cancellation of sanctions against oil exports, and the cessation of military operations in the region.
The Iranian side stated that if Washington accepts the conditions, it is possible to open the Strait of Hormuz within six days and resume negotiations the next day.
