French President Emmanuel Macron will hold a meeting on October 17 to discuss security measures related to the riots in the country. The meeting will be attended by Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu and representatives of internal intelligence services.

Modern.az reports that BFMTV channel disseminated this information.

Ministers from relevant fields will also participate in the meeting. The TV channel has not disclosed the exact list of attendees.

The purpose of the meeting is to present a detailed report to the president regarding the riots that occurred on October 17. In addition, measures to be taken in the areas of threat forecasting and security provision will be determined with intelligence.

These measures are planned to be implemented by October 24, the date when the next protests are scheduled, as well as in the coming weeks.

It should be noted that earlier, criticisms were voiced regarding the internal intelligence services' unpreparedness for the riots and the law enforcement agencies' insufficient readiness for possible events.

On October 17, mass protests against rising fuel prices and declining purchasing power were held in Paris and other French cities.

According to the organizers' estimates, 800,000 people participated in the actions. The French Ministry of Interior, however, announced the number of participants as 550,000. This figure doubled the previous forecasts of security forces' analysts.

In several cities, the protests turned into riots and clashes with the police.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez stated that the authorities would continue measures to bring all individuals involved in looting and robberies to justice.
