US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on September 28 demanded that the Iranian delegation participating in the UN General Assembly immediately leave the country.

Modern.az reports that “Axios” spread information citing sources.

According to the information, after the negotiations between Washington and Tehran reached a dead end, Rubio instructed the US mission to the UN to inform the Iranian side that the delegation should immediately leave New York.

“On Monday morning, the White House believed that progress could be made in negotiations with Iran by the end of the day. But by the end of the day, it became clear that the talks had reached a dead end,” Axios wrote.

The Iranian delegation was led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi. According to the information, the members of the delegation went to the airport a few hours later and flew to Doha on the night of September 29.

However, Iran's mission to the UN denied the information that the delegation was expelled from the country. The Iranian side stated that the departure from New York was planned in advance and the US State Department was informed about it on September 17.

According to the US side, Rubio no longer considered it necessary for the delegation to remain in New York after the main events of the UN General Assembly ended. Key issues in the talks included Iran's nuclear program, the Strait of Hormuz, and conflicts in the region.
