Hungary's Chargé d'affaires Gabor Gergic was summoned to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs today. He was informed of Russia's protest regarding Hungary's expulsion of Russian diplomats.

Modern.az reports that in response, the Russian side will expel a group of employees from the Hungarian Embassy in Moscow, as well as its consulates general in St. Petersburg and Kazan.

According to information released by the Russian Foreign Ministry, Hungarian diplomats must leave Russia within two weeks. The exact number of diplomats to be expelled from the country has not been disclosed.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the actions of the Hungarian authorities as "unfounded and openly unfriendly."

It should be noted that on September 8, Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orban announced the expulsion of 10 Russian diplomats from the country. They were declared persona non grata on the grounds of engaging in "activities unacceptable under the Vienna Convention."

The Hungarian side stated that this measure was taken to ensure the country's security and sovereignty.

After this, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a harsh response would be given. Kremlin spokesmen stated that the expulsion of Russian diplomats from Hungary would negatively affect relations between Moscow and Budapest.
