The US is considering the option of hitting Iran with a giant aviation bomb called GBU-43/B (MOAB), unofficially known as the "mother of all bombs."
Modern.az reports, citing CNN, that among the targets of a possible attack are Iran's energy infrastructure and nuclear facilities. However, this scenario can only come to the fore if US President Donald Trump decides to resume military operations.
According to CNN, the MOAB, weighing more than 9.5 tons, is the most powerful non-nuclear bomb in the US armed forces' arsenal. The TV channel notes that it is doubtful how effective this weapon would be in achieving Trump's declared strategic goals. However, its application would mean a serious escalation of the US-Iran conflict.
One of the sources who spoke to CNN said that Trump instructed the military to prepare additional strike plans against Iran. The list of targets includes numerous energy infrastructure facilities. The possibility of using the MOAB bomb is also being considered.
According to another anonymous source of the TV channel, the US military is preparing to strike Iran's nuclear facilities, including the facility believed to be located near Natanz, under the Kolang-Qaz-La mountain.
One of the sources said that the US President is currently in a situation where he is practically forced to take certain steps. According to the source, in the absence of bombs designed to hit targets located at great depths, the psychological impact factor comes to the fore, and MOAB can be considered a suitable tool in this regard.
According to the TV channel, many representatives of the US administration believe that victory over Iran is possible only through a large-scale ground operation. However, such a scenario carries the risk of thousands of American soldiers being killed.
The Pentagon is considering possible courses of action, including a ground operation. However, currently, no one in the administration is insisting on such an operation.
According to CNN, Trump also stated that he is not interested in sending US troops to Iran.
