The Chief of the General Staff of the British Army, General Roly Walker, has warned that the country may need its military to participate in combat operations in the near future amid growing geopolitical threats in the world.
Modern.az reports with reference to “The Telegraph” that the general stated that in the near future the political leaders of the country will have to hold open and sincere discussions with the public about the sacrifices that may be required in a state of war. According to him, citizens should understand the role of the army in ensuring the country's security and be ready for certain sacrifices for the sake of prioritizing defense and security.
Speaking in front of approximately 700 servicemen during his visit to the Catterick military garrison in Yorkshire, the general emphasized that Great Britain may need soldiers to participate in combat operations in the near future: “Perhaps you don't know this, but our country will need you,” the general said.
Walker noted that previously British society did not want to think about a time when the army would be forced to participate in war. However, the current geopolitical situation and growing threats in the world have brought the issue of military readiness back to the agenda. According to the general, anyone who follows the direction of development of international relations can see that there are extremely serious threats in the world today.
