Proceeding from the provisions of the peace agreement text initialed at the historic August 8 Washington summit, significant work has been done towards peace and confidence-building between the two countries. Specifically in the direction of confidence-building, meetings have already been held twice between Azerbaijani NGO representatives in the territories of both countries. The last time, a meeting was held in Armenia between nearly 40 delegations within the framework of the "peace bridge" initiative.
For the advancement of progress in peacebuilding and confidence-building, meetings of other representatives of society, as well as religious leaders and representatives, are also of interest.
It is interesting whether a meeting between Azerbaijani and Armenian religious leaders and clergy is expected at this moment?
Speaking to Modern.az on the topic, Deputy Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office, Bakhtiyar Najafov, stated that such a meeting is currently not possible.
He explained the reason as follows:
"Currently, other religious representatives, including the Armenian religious leader Garegin II himself, are engaged in revanchism. After all, no negotiations can be held with them yet. At this moment, they are not doing what their states say".
