"In accordance with the understanding reached during the meeting of the Presidents of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation in Dushanbe on October 9, 2025, the parties have agreed on the appropriate resolution of issues arising from the accident, including the payment of compensation, in connection with the crash of an Embraer 190 aircraft belonging to "Azerbaijan Airlines" (AZAL) near Aktau on December 25, 2024, as a result of the involuntary operation of the air defense system in the airspace of the Russian Federation.
The steps taken demonstrate the common efforts of the parties towards further developing beneficial cooperation within the framework of allied interaction.
We are confident that the continuous development of Azerbaijan-Russia relations based on mutual respect, trust, and consideration of the parties' interests will continue to contribute to the strengthening of good-neighborly relations and the expansion of cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries.
We once again express our deepest condolences to the families and relatives of those who lost their lives in the plane crash and share the pain of this irreplaceable loss with everyone affected by the tragedy," the statement said.
