Famous British heart surgeon Jeremy London has revealed the products that should not be in the diet of people who want to live long. According to him, some food products can negatively affect life expectancy.
Modern.az presents these 4 foods:
Which products are dangerous?
The doctor specifically noted the following products:
alcoholic beverages
processed meat products
sugary drinks
excessive intake of saturated fats
Sugary drinks - “empty calories”
The expert drew special attention to carbonated and sugary drinks. According to him, these drinks are a source of “empty calories”, meaning they do not create a feeling of fullness, but significantly increase daily calorie intake. This often leads to secretly overeating and weight gain.
Alcohol and processed meat
The World Health Organization has included these products in the list of category 1 carcinogens, meaning their link to cancer has been scientifically proven. The same position is supported by Cancer Research UK. This organization states that the impact of processed meat on cancer risk is based on evidence serious enough to be compared to smoking and alcohol.
Excessive saturated fats
London also recommended avoiding excessive consumption of fatty meat, butter, and fatty dairy products. However, not all experts agree on this issue. For example, Sarah Berry notes that the link between dairy products and cardiovascular diseases is not so clear-cut.
Balance is important
The doctor emphasizes that it is not about completely giving up these products. If a person eats healthy for approximately 80% of their time, this is already considered a good result. The main thing is not to make these products the main part of the diet and to use them in moderation. According to the World Health Organization's definition, processed meat includes products treated with salting, smoking, fermentation, and other methods to enhance their flavor and extend their shelf life. These include sausages, ham, frankfurters, dried meat, canned meat, and various semi-finished products.
