Large-scale work has been carried out in Khankendi, Aghdara and Khojaly districts to clear mines and unexploded ordnance.
Modern.az reports that Elchin Usubov, special representative for Khankendi, Khojaly, and Asgaran, stated this during his speech at a panel held within the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum
“Within the framework of the demining operations, an area of 1456 hectares in Khankendi was cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance. During the operations, a total of 23,746 explosive devices were discovered and neutralized.
In Aghdara district, 10,359 hectares of land were cleared. Here, 5159 mines and unexploded ordnance were discovered and safely neutralized.
Mine and unexploded ordnance clearance work continues in Khojaly district as well,” he said.
The special representative noted that 24,000 residents currently live in Khankendi.
