The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line will switch to full operation mode from June 2, after the completion of modernization works in the Georgian part.
Modern.az reports that the Ministry of Economy of Georgia has released information about this.
According to the information, the total length of the Marabda-Karsakhi railway section is 180 kilometers. Within the framework of the project, 153 kilometers of railway line were reconstructed and modernized, and at the same time, a new 27-kilometer railway section was built in accordance with European standards.
The ministry's statement noted that the full commissioning of the railway section became possible after the signing of the protocol of the bilateral coordination council between the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Mariam Kvrivishvili and the Minister of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan Rashad Nabiyev during the visit of the Prime Minister of Georgia to Baku.
According to expert calculations, after the full commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars line, its annual cargo capacity will increase to 5 million tons.
The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line is considered one of the main transport arteries of the region and plays an important role in increasing cargo transportation between Europe and Asia.
