Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited the leaders of CIS countries to St. Petersburg.

Modern.az reports that during his speech at the CIS summit in Turkmenistan, Putin stated that removing trade barriers within the Commonwealth could lead to greater success.

According to him, more than 90 percent of settlements within the CIS are conducted in national currencies. Putin noted that restrictions applied at the national level in some countries have slowed down the pace of development:

“We are consciously limiting the possible pace of development ourselves.”

The Russian President said that CIS countries unanimously support the formation of a fair, multipolar world order.

He emphasized that common traditions and values, kinship and historical ties bring the peoples of the Commonwealth countries closer, and the Russian language is a strong unifying factor in the CIS space.

Putin also stated the importance of discussing the issue related to the Caspian Sea.
